One day, while work was ongoing at our site, we faced immense pressure to deliver on the task at hand. We were also short-staffed, making it challenging to complete certain duties. It was during this time that Mr. A walked onto the site and approached the supervisor. He introduced himself and mentioned that he had a variety of skills he could offer if allowed to prove himself.
The supervisor, however, decided to start him off as a casual worker—someone who would take on any task available, even if it was as basic as sweeping and cleaning up after the day’s work. Mr. A accepted this role with humility, determined to demonstrate his value over time. As he put it, “I made up my mind to do anything I am asked to do so the company would believe in me and eventually entrust me with more significant responsibilities.”
True to his word, Mr. A gave his best to every task, no matter how small or menial. When asked to enrol in the building and construction training program that was ongoing at the time, he willingly complied, attending the sessions and consistently taking on challenging assignments. He never shied away from hard work and was always ready to step in where needed.
At some point, he confided in one of his superiors, saying, “Sir, I can plaster and paint a house. I am a highly skilled mason, but when I joined, I was told I’d have to grow through the ranks and prove myself. I decided to humble myself, work hard, and hope for a chance to showcase my skills someday.”
The superior, impressed by his humility and dedication, decided to give him a few tasks aligned with his expertise. Mr. A excelled in these assignments, delivering excellent results. His straightforwardness and genuine concern for the organization’s success also stood out, earning him trust and respect.
One of his superiors even remarked that Mr. A could be described as a faithful worker—someone any employer would value and be fortunate to have on their team.
